Teams will be allowed to use a fourth substitute in the Copa America final if it extends to extra time.
It applies only to the final because other knockout stage games go directly to penalty kicks if tied after regulation.
The tournament announced the change Friday, saying its executive committee had achieved approval from FIFA under the new edition of the laws of the game.
Organizers also said single yellow cards would be wiped clean after the quarterfinals. That eliminates the possibility of a single yellow card in the semifinal causing a player to be suspended for the final.
