Comilla, June 7 – The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted the full report of the DNA test, conducted on the body of slain college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu, to the medical board formed for her 2nd autopsy on Tuesday.
Mosharraf Hossain, assistant sub-inspector of Comilla CID, handed over the report to Dr Kamda Prosad Saha, chief of the medical board at the Forensic Department of Comilla Medical College Hospital at noon.
Kamda Prosad, head of the Forensic Department of Comilla Medical College Hospital, said, “CID has submitted the DNA report of Tonu to us, and the report of her second autopsy will be given on Sunday.”
Additional Senior Judicial Magistrate of Comilla Joynab Begum on Sunday ordered DNA analyst special superintendent of police Nasima Begum to provide the report.
Earlier, a Comilla court ordered the CID to give the DNA report of the two samples -- teeth and spermatozoa -- out of total seven samples to the medial board following pleas filed by the board.
However, the CID then replied that it would be easier to provide the full report instead of giving the reports on two samples.
Following this, CID inspector Gazi M Ibrahim, also the investigative officer of the case, filed a petition on Thursday seeking a court order to pass the full DNA report to the medical board.
On March 30, Tonu’s body was exhumed from her grave for collecting DNA sample, fresh postmortem and proper investigation into the case.
Later, members of Crime Scene Unit of CID brought the DNA and other samples of teeth, nails and body to Dhaka for examination.
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a second year student of History department of Comilla Victoria College and member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside the Comilla Cantonment on March 20.
